Never Forget

So there's a bunch of people in NYC who are totally pissed off about a group of Muslims wanting to build a mosque near the Ground Zero site of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. They argue that the construction of the mosque would be an affront and an insult to the memory of the dead and their surviving family members. 

These people are racist, culturally-intolerant wastes of life. Wrap it up in the flag all you want and say that you're defending the honor of those who died, but it's still prejudiced, hateful bullshit. 

Why don't we also put up traffic barricades to keep those of the Muslim faith from visiting the site? Why not ban them from walking, living, or working withing a 3000 foot radius (one foot for each victim) of the site? Better yet... We haven't had a really good crusade in quite awhile. Who wants to load their family on a boat and go kill some brown people for Jesus? 

Here's the deal... The terrorist attacks of 9/11 were a terrible thing. It's unfathomable that a small group of hateful people could think that committing such a horrendous act could accomplish anything positive or beneficial in this world. But 9/11 was also something that brought our nation together in like-minded unity for a brief and wonderful time. Before they became cliche money-making fodder, slogans like "united we stand" and "never forget" actually meant something. But here we are nearly ten years later and it turns out that we've forgotten any lesson we might have learned at the time about unity and respect.

You wanna cling to your slogans, dudes? 9/11 - Never forget? How about you never forget that you represent a country that is great because its founding documents specifically say that it's not cool for assholes like you to makes rules or policies which keep your fellow Americans from exercising their right to religious freedom? 

Sit down and shut up. You barely deserve the freedoms you're so immaturely exercising.

It seems we're addicted to proving that we never really learn anything from the events in our lives that really mean something.
